Stargazing in the galazy of stars

Located in the North Ari Atoll, Maayafushi embodies all the features that make this small space of Maldives unique: from the wild nature of the vegetation to the seabed inhabited by the most diverse species of fish to a passion towards stars.

In Maayafushi the manifestation of nature is not limited to the azure blue seas and the white sandy beaches.

Midnight star gazing at Maayaafushi is enough to be overwhelmed by the beauty of the celestial vault that shows itself in all its splendor.

In an attempt to understand this beauty in a deeper context, Maayaafushi was the first in Maldives to host an astronomer on board with the dual objective of research and disseminating knowledge in a clear, simple and fun way.

The Astronomy projects at Maayaafushi makes use of the collaborations of professionals and experts in the scientific-technological sector and delivers facts about the Universe and its infinite facets.

For two years, the in house astronomer and photographer Stefano Perrone, has been mapping the sky above Maayaafushi to capture nature and aspirations that conspire while star gazing.

This is the perfect place for anyone who loves to admire the universe and, shot after shot, be amazed as if it were always the first time.

In addition to the distinguishing celestial projects, Maayafushi is where colored fauna covers the coral reef - a paradise for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts who want to see the best of the underwater sights.

Happy Hues of the Maldives!

Sometimes travel inspiration comes from unexpected places. One particularly dreary afternoon, while shopping a gorgeous resort wear collection, it came in the form of a pattern. The print – softly geometric, in turquoise wash and luminous white – was a visual representation of an escape to a tropical paradise. Imagine floating in lagoon shallows, eyes blissfully shut, brilliant sunlight projecting a web of shifting shapes onto your eyelids.

The pattern had a name - the Anantara Dhigu print, christened after a resort in the Maldives. Distilling exotic land- and sea-scapes into patterns has been attempted before - just think of the iconic Martinique Banana Leaf wallpaper from the ‘40s which, impressively, is showing no signs of wilting. But for a pattern to be inspired by a resort – well, that’s a first, we thought.

Back in 2016, when sisters Hattie Clark and Victoria Thompson holidayed on Dhigu, the island’s powdery white beaches, shimmering waters and kaleidoscopic reefs inspired them to create their own resort wear .

The ethos of the brand is to design versatile key pieces across exclusive prints, each in the spirit of the location that had inspired it. Which explains our emotional response to Anantara Dhigu pattern.

With Anantara Dhigu collection, which was launched in March this year, the sisters place us among bold tropical hues and breathtaking Maldivian backdrops. Think an array of fresh, contemporary prints that reflect the vibrant colours of resort’s spectacular natural settings and designs that capture the playful essence of a holiday at the resort.

That Anantara Dhigu could be such a powerful source of creative inspiration is hardly surprising. And it’s not just the preternaturally beautiful Maldivian environment that gets the creative juices flowing. The marine-themed resort was designed to create breathing space in a stimulating setting. Here the weary-eyed seek and find solace, the mind is encouraged to wander, imagination is ignited and the next big business idea is hatched.

Suspended above crystal clear waters, find the perfect spot to watch the glowing Maldivian sunrise, taking a moment to appreciate the rich and tonal colours, the absolute harmony. Gaze through floor-to-ceiling glass windows whilst lazing in your king-size bed or float suspended between the sky and the ocean in your oversized outdoor terrazzo bathtub.

Exquisite marine life of the Endless Ocean

Fihalhohi Island
is a resort where the natural tropical beauty of the island and the captivating view of the Indian Ocean below the surface is as exquisite as it is of the view above the turquoise blue lagoon. Fihalhohi Island Resort is an absolute delight for the nature lovers and marine ocean enthusiasts.

You get to experience a timeless stay at one of the incredible villas while enjoying the picturesque view of the Indian Ocean over the endless horizon. The warm sea breeze giving you the chills while the azure sun gives you warmth all at the same time. All you hear is nothing but birds chirping at a distance and the waves splashing against marshmallow white beaches. Fihalhohi Island Resort will surround you in its paradisaical landscapes, a turquoise blue lagoon and lush tropical gardens and more importantly, the exquisite reef and its abundant marine life.

 The Reefs

At Fihalhohi Island Resort your options are endless. You can swim, snorkel, dive into the ocean blues or kayak above reefs that shelter large-mouthed groupers, brightly colored parrotfish and the occasional moray eel. Watch closely for the unmistakable shape of the spotted eagle ray or try to spot a giant clam, the world’s largest bivalve. Count the anemones, starfish and sea urchins. Look for butterflyfish nibbling on coral. Follow a school of damselfish across the reef.

 Turtle

Five of the seven species of sea turtles can be found in the Maldives, with the two most common being the Hawksbill turtle and the Green Turtle, often sighted living on the reef. These are highly protected by law as they are critically endangered creatures in the world. Hawksbill turtle is surely a creature that you dream of coming across while you snorkel in Maldives. You can easily spot of them in our house reef.

Moray Eel

Moray eel is the largest type of eel that sums up to 1 to 2 meter size. There are 200 different fishes of its kind found in fresh, marine and brackish waters. And you can also see them majority in all the reefs in the Maldives. They prefer warmer water and can be often found in the shallow close the the coral reeds.

Despite large teeth, the moray eel is a very calm fish, whose negative reputation is probably earned from its appearance.

Eagle Ray

Eagle ray is usually around one or two meters in wing span with a diamond body shape as their pectoral fins are pointed at the ends, their tails are quite long and they are a well-defined rhomboidal shape featuring distinct wings. The spotted eagle ray is one of the most beautiful rays and is also known as the bonnet ray.

Compared to other ray family, Eagle rays tend to live in the open ocean rather than on the bottom of the sea, But they are also often found gliding through the water column when they are not busy foraging on the ocean floor.

Cowtail Stingray

Its name refers to its unusual tail. The Cowtail Stingray has a disc that is slightly wider than long. They have small eyes and a very wide inter orbital space. The tail is about twice the length of the disc. The upper surface of the disc is a uniform grey, brown or black. The lower surface is white. The tail is depressed basally becoming more cylindrical distally. The broad skin flap and tip of the tail are black.

The species is common in inshore tropical waters, venturing into estuaries and sometimes freshwater. They tend to be inquisitive and approach closely if fish have been speared.

Guitarfish

The guitarfish is a family of rays. They have a body form intermediate between those of sharks and rays, other often confused with sharks, especially when seen underwater for the first time. The tail has a typical shark-like form, but in many species the head has a triangular, or shovel-like shape, rather than the disc-shape formed by fusion with the pectoral fin found in other ray. Maldivian fisherman for example simply refer to them as sharks. The largest of their kind possible reach to 3 meters.

They are or most often seen while resting on the sandy bottoms in the vicinity of coral reefs. They swim in a shark like manner with lateral strokes of the tail and caudal fin not by undulating their pectoral fins like most rays do.

The Fihalhohi Island Resort is a true haven of peace. Offering you adventure, relaxation, tranquility and romance, our establishment welcomes you for an unforgettable vacation in a dream destination.
